For most of the world, Stripe Identity accepts any valid government-issued photo ID. Here's a quick guide to which one to pick.
What counts as an acceptable document
Must be government-issued โ school IDs, work badges, and library cards don't count
Must have your photo on it
Must not be expired
Must be the original โ no photocopies or printed screenshots
Must be undamaged โ no tears, faded corners, or missing pieces
Best choices in the United States
Driver's license โ the fastest and most common option. Works in every state.
State ID card โ works the same way as a driver's license.
U.S. Passport โ works well, but requires only the photo page
Passport card โ works, though rarely used
Best choices outside the United States
Stripe Identity supports government-issued IDs from over 100 countries. Most customers use:
National ID card (for most European, Asian, and Latin American countries)
Driver's license
Passport
What won't work
Military IDs
Firearms licenses
Employer-issued IDs (even for government employees)
Temporary paper IDs (the kind you get while waiting for the real one)
Any ID where the photo is unclear, faded, or damaged
A note about the name on your ID
The name on the ID must match the name on your 365 Agents account. Before you start verification, go to your account settings and confirm your name looks right. If there's a mismatch โ a middle name, an initial, a marriage name change โ fix it in your account settings first. This is the #1 reason verifications fail on the first try.
