Forwarding an 8x8 number
Forward your 8x8 extension from 8x8 Work for Desktop or the Admin Console. Paths differ slightly for X Series vs. Classic users.

8x8 Work for Desktop lets you forward calls in two different ways depending on whether your organization is on X Series / Virtual Office Editions (most customers) or Virtual Office Classic (older accounts). Here's how to find the right one.
Quick version โ basic forwarding
All 8x8 Work for Desktop users can set simple forwarding from the app's Profile panel:
Open 8x8 Work for Desktop.
Click your profile icon to open the Profile panel.
Under Voicemail setup, check Call forwarding.
From the dropdown, pick your forwarding destination. If you don't see an external number option here, you'll need the X Series path below.
A banner in your app will remind you forwarding is on.
Step-by-step โ X Series / Virtual Office Editions
Open 8x8 Work for Desktop.
Go to Settings โ Account settings (opens in your browser).
Under Call forwarding rules, pick your trigger condition:
Always โ overrides all other rules and forwards every call
When your internet connection is down โ great as a backup failover
When you are busy on an existing call
When you do not answer within X seconds (default 15)
When you get a call from a blocked number
Enter the 365 Agents number we assigned you.
Save.
Step-by-step โ Virtual Office Classic
Open 8x8 Work for Desktop. Go to Settings โ Account settings.
Under Call Forwarding, click Default Rules.
Click Edit on the rule you want (Internet down / Busy / No answer).
Enter the 365 Agents number as the forwarding destination.
Save.
Classic also supports more complex Custom rules under My Rules, including rules that only fire for specific calling numbers or schedules.
Step-by-step โ Admin Console (forwarding another user)
An admin can forward any user's line from the 8x8 Admin Console:
Sign in to the 8x8 Admin Console.
Go to Home โ Users and pick the user.
Click their profile, then go to Call forwarding rules.
Edit the relevant rule, enter the 365 Agents number, and save.
To turn forwarding off
In the app Profile panel, uncheck the Call forwarding box. In Account Settings, disable the rule and save.
Your forwarding destination
Your forwarding destination is the 365 Agents number we assigned you during setup. You'll find it in your dashboard under Numbers.
